Custody of Sooraj Pancholi, son of actor Aditya Pancholi, who was arrested Monday (June 10, 2013) under Section 306 of the IPC for allegedly abetting actress Jiah Khan's suicide, was extended to June 13.
Sooraj Pancholi, son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab has been arrested by the Mumbai police in connection with the suicide of actress Jiah Khan. Jiah, who was reportedly dating Sooraj for a year, hanged herself at her Juhu residence on June 3. Police lodged a fresh FIR on Monday afternoon, naming Sooraj Pancholi as the accused and booking him under Section 306 of IPC (abetment of suicide).

“We have arrested Sooraj Pancholi under IPC section 306. We will produce him in court on Tuesday and demand police custody for further investigations,” Arun Bhagat, senior inspector of Juhu police station, had said after his arrest.
Sooraj Pancholi was under the scanner ever since Jiah Khan’s suicide last week. Jiah, who died at the age of 25, was said to be dating Sooraj and the two reportedly had a disturbed relationship. Suraj was the last person to speak to Jiah before her death and was questioned by the Mumbai police last week.
The police action comes in the wake of a six-page letter penned by Jiah, which her mother Rabia Khan handed over to the cops. Jiah's family also made public the letter purportedly written by Jiah detailing her traumatic love life. In this letter considered Jiah Khan's suicide note, Jiah clearly named Sooraj Panscholi as the reason behind her suicide.
“I have given the police the letter and Sooraj has been arrested. I think the police have done their job sincerely,” said Rabia. The police recorded Rabia’s statement again and questioned her about the contents of Jiah’s letter in her house.
After the arrest, Sooraj’s father did not turn up at the police station. But his mother, actor Zareena Wahab, sister Sana and a cousin reached the station. The visibly tense family members refused to speak to the media.

Sooraj Pancholi confirmed to the police that he had been trying to avoid Jiah but could not as she was in love with him and kept in contact. Sooraj was then asked about Jiah’s abortion and physical torture, as mentioned in her letter. Sooraj confessed to both the allegations, based on which the cops arrested him.

A police officer, who is part of the investigation team, revealed that Sooraj said, “Jiah was pregnant and I suggested to her that she abort the child, as we were too young and I wanted to establish my career. We had fought several times on this.”
While initially Jiah’s suicide was thought to have been caused due to work-related depression, a six-page long unnamed letter found after the actress’ suicide – written by Jiah – blamed her troubled relationship for her extreme step.
“I am broken inside. You may not have known this but you affected me deeply to a point where I lost myself in loving you. Yet you tortured me everyday,” read Jiah’s letter. (Click Here For Jiah Khan's Suicide Letter)
Both Sooraj Pancholi and his father, actor Aditya Pancholi, had been questioned for over four hours on the day following the death of Jiah Khan. Rabia Amin Khan, who handed Jiah’s letter over to the police, had held a press conference where she blamed ‘unrequited love’ for the death of her daughter.
Jiah had shot to fame following her debut opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the 2005 film ‘Nishabd’.
