My Legacy Only Motivates Me Says Mukesh Ambani's Son Akash Ambani In an Interview to Hello! magazine

My legacy only motivates me: Akash Ambani

Reliance heir Akash Ambani says his family has taught him to stay simple, but dream big. Excerpts from his first media interview to Hello! magazine...

Completely in tune with the ambitious Reliance Jio Info comm Limited (RJIL)'s 4G venture today , it's surprising to hear that a short while ago, Akash Ambani wasn't keen on coming back to India. "I wanted to work in the US," he says.

"But last year when my dad was visiting, he asked me what I use the internet for and I said to read, learn and gain knowledge. He said, wouldn't you like to provide that knowledge to 1.2 billion Indians? He explained the project to me, and I decided this is what I want to do."

Mukesh Ambani's Son Akash Ambani On The Cover Of Hello Magazine July 2014

Heir to Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Akash doesn't appear intimidated by his formidable legacy in his first-ever media interview. "I wouldn't say it weighs on me.

"It motivates me," says the 22-year-old son of Nita and Mukesh D Ambani. Back in India last year after a Bachelors in Economics from Brown University, he claims technology is his passion. "So far my experience (at Jio) has been incredible. It's a lifetime opportunity to contribute to one of the largest rollouts of digital services in the world," he says.

Scions of business families work their way up and it is no different with the Ambanis. At age 24, current chairman and managing director of RIL Mukesh Ambani learnt the fundamentals of the group's flagship petrochemicals business by shadowing his father, the late Dhirubhai Ambani. Akash is being similarly mentored.

"My dad is very keen I sit through all critical meetings and learn the ropes of the business from the beginning. He feels this is the best education for me," says Akash.
Born to India's richest man, Akash credits his mother for his grounded personality. "She has instilled in us simplicity. It is from her that we learned to respect and value money. In school days, the pocket money we used to get was a pittance as compared to our friends. Even while studying at Brown, all the expenses used to go through her," he claims.

Mom Nita sparkles while talking about her son. "My boy has finally grown into a man. I don't believe it... he is giving his first interview as a businessman. It is such a proud moment for me as a mother," she says smilingly, adding, "Akash is very sensi tive and emotional and relates with people very well. He has many of his father's qualities and it's great to see that in him."

Life in Mumbai is mostly work for Akash, who has a five day week at the Navi Mumbai office, 50 km from his house on Altamount Road. When he does unwind on weekends, he enjoys watching movies with his dad. "We watch at least 2-3 movies a week. I think we have seen almost every movie released," he says.

An avid cricketer, he's been closely involved with the family-owned IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. Akash is a serious footie fan too, and he reveals he's excited about his involvement in the Indian Super League (ISL) to promote soccer in India. "In sport, there is a new learning: how to deal with people in a way that a boardroom will not teach me," he says. Sailing, watching documentaries and photography are other passions.

What Akash cherishes most, however, is time with family — including twin sister Isha, who is working with McKinsey in New York, and younger brother Anant, now at Brown. They may be in three different cities of the world, but the siblings remain connected. "Isha and I share a special bond. Anant understands me best: it's amazing," he says. When they're all home, they always have dinner together. "This is something my grandfather ensured and we still follow. Sundays are special," he says.

Akash was just a boy when Dhirubhai Ambani passed away, but he recalls some sweet memories. "All of us cousins spent Sundays with him, and when he walked in the garden I used to accompany him," Akash says, recalling they both loved eating gur papri. Dhirubhai also left his grandson with some life-lessons.

"He used to say, 'Money lost can be earned again, but lost time is lost forever. So use your time judiciously,'" Akash recalls, adding dad Mukesh has also shared words of wisdom. "He always says trust people and they will trust you. And business can grow only in an environment of trust and respect."

These learnings help Akash navigate today. "Both taught me to dream big, aim high but to not forget humility and individual connections is critical."

Aamir Khan’s Daughter Ira Organises Charity Football Match. Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan Participate

Aamir Khan's daughter Ira Khan organised a charity football match in Mumbai on Sunday (20th July 2014). The match was organized to raise funds for Ms Nuzhat Khan's (Aamir Khan's sister and Imran Khan's mom) animal shelter TIGI Foundation (Trust In Goodness Inside) as they want to build a state of the art Animal Shelter just outside Mumbai.

Big names from Bollywood - Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and Jacqueline Fernandez were spotted at the event which took place in Mumbai on Sunday night. If reports are to be believed, the contributors will get a chance to get a ride in Imran Khan’s Ferrari or have a work-out date at his gym or even join Aamir Khan on the set of P.K for one day. Dabangg star was spotted interacting with Aamir Khan’s son Azaad at the charity event. Below are some of the first pictures from the football match organised by Aamir Khan’s Daughter Ira Khan in Mumbai.

Ira was earlier quoted by a daily, “Yes, my father is playing. He doesn’t play (football) very often, so I don’t know (how well he plays). We will see in the match.” She added, “There’s a lot of work, so it’s exciting as well as stressful.” What more, we hear that those donating towards charity stand a chance to spend time with the actors. Ira said, “You can (get a chance to) go for a ride in Imran (Khan) bhai’s Ferrari, or work out in his gym. Or you can spend a day with my dad on the sets of P.K..”

Earlier, in a rare and first-ever video interview (Click here to watch the interview), Aamir along with his daughter Ira Khan spoke to Bollywood Hungama about the eagerly awaited football match. The wonderful banter between the father-daughter duo has to be seen to be believed. "I just hope that she remains happy and healthy all her life and contributes positively to people's lives and mine," Aamir said. Ira has successfully managed to convince a lot of big Bollywood stars like Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, Tiger Shroff, Nargis Fakhri etc to be a part of this football match. "Salman is coming?," Aamir exclaimed. "He's not playing but he's gonna come for a bit. He can't stay the whole time," Ira said. "We'll get him to play if he's coming," Aamir chipped in.

Ira shared some interesting information about the fundraising efforts for TIGI Foundation's Animal Shelter. If a fan donates a certain amount of money then he/she gets to spend some time with Aamir on the sets of P.K. or a cooking lesson with Kiran or a ride in Imran Khan's Ferrari. "At 20 km an hour, no speeding," Aamir said with a chuckle

The 16-year-old Ira Khan recently passed her 2014 ICSE examinations with a score of 89%. Word is, that she is quite the avid footballer herself and organizes a football match with family members every year on her birthday. So it is not altogether surprising that she chose this medium to help support her animal welfare cause.

This is not the first time one of Aamir’s children has organised a sports event to help support a social cause. A few years ago, Ira’s brother Junaid had organised a cricket match between celebrities for the underprivileged people in Maharashtra. Aamir’s co-star from Andaaz Apna Apna, Salman Khan was part of this event.

A Peek Into Kajol’s ‘Do as Mom Says’ Parenting Style With Kids Nysa and Yug Devgan

Kajol, the firebrand actress we loved as Anjali of Kuch Kuch Hot Hai and applauded for slamming roles in movies like Gupt, Bazigar and My Name is Khan, is the celebrity mother of two adorable kids. Being a mom, Kajol takes her responsibilities very seriously and has her own set of rules. Here's taking a peek into Kajol's parenting style.

Kajol With Her Children Nysa and Yug During Durga Puja Last Year.

As a mommy, Kajol is particular about every little detail of her kids' daily routine. She takes it upon herself to make their lives healthy and fun.

The Rules

A tough task master, the pretty bong beauty has set some stringent rules as far as her kids are concerned. She says, "The one golden rule that I have in my house is - As Momma Says." According to Kajol, her word is final. Little Yug and Nysa do not ask questions or even need to know what, why and how, when momma has given her dictate. "What I say is written in stone and there are no explanations thereafter," she reveals.

She happily proclaims, "I am proud of the fact that my kids listen to 70% of the things I say. The other 30% is open for fights and compromises but we deal with it. I think it's a good ratio."

With a 99% attendance record at all school events, the doting mom shares a fantastic bond with her little ones who understand her compulsive need to take care of them and protect them. "When you have carried a child in your womb for nine months, that bond is different. We call it the mothering instinct for a reason. As mothers we naturally have that caring feeling towards our younger kin," she explains.

When asked about her role in the family, she quickly responds, "I am the God in my family. All mothers are." The actress adores spending time with her little geniuses.

Family Bonds

Kajol organises various activities that help the kids bond as a family and confesses that she isn't a keen participant in their play time. There is also a great deal of learning that she takes from them.

"I love spending time with them and I truly enjoy their company. In fact there are some things I have totally lost control over. Anything related to technology or computers is left upon Nysa to do."

The whole family shares a unique bond that's strengthened by spending quality time together. "Sometimes we just sit together. Nysa is reading a book and I am reading a book and we are bonding," she says.

As a mother of a growing girl, she hopes that their bond is strong and trusting enough to be able to discuss boyfriends someday. "I may not like it at first and may want to kill them, but I know that she is a cool kid who is sensible enough to handle her life and has her head firmly set on her shoulders," she explains.

Ajay, on the other hand, is an over protective dad who's planned the security details for when his little princess turns 18. "He has planned how those men in black suits will follow her with spyware and binoculars keeping a check on all her moves," chuckles Kajol.

The Challenges

Kajol's kids are some of the few celebrity children who live a fairly normal life away from the spotlight. This is a conscious effort by the celebrity couple to give their kids a normal upbringing. "I do not take them to places where the media is present. We have even spoken to the media and told them that we would appreciate it if they could keep our kids away."

The actress believes that this is necessary to give the kids a normal life. "Being celebrities, when we go out with them they are in the spot light by default. We have security around and we get recognised. It is too much of unnecessary stress for them."

Kajol doesn't have any future plans for her kids but wants them to live it up with grace, dignity and compassion. "If I can teach them this as a parent I would be more than happy. I don't mind if they choose to be a part of Bollywood or take up a job somewhere, but the fact that they need to work hard needs to be made clear."

But the biggest challenge she feels is to give them a balanced normal life, "It is important to give them a regular life. Too much exposure can lead them to believe that they are like the emperors of the universe. But this becomes a little difficult with our celebrity status and the security concerns," she concludes.
