Alcohol Thrown at Lalit Modi's Son Ruchir Modi at a Mumbai Nightclub Colaba

'Ruchir did not react to taunts'- Colaba nightclub patrons chucked alcohol on teenager Ruchir Modi in a show of hate, say sources

Lalit Modi's son is apparently bearing the brunt of public anger against his father over IPLgate. Ruchir Modi was allegedly involved in an incident at a high-end, premier lounge bar in Colaba recently, where some unidentified people threw alcohol on him.

Ruchir Modi with Dad Lalit Modi.

A source who was present at the party said, "Ruchir came in with his friends and was partying at the lounge bar. Though he was quietly doing his own thing, random people came up to him and started throwing their drinks at him.

"Apparently, they were upset at Lalit Modi and the IPL controversy and were taking it out on him. They kept taunting him about the IPL and passed remarks about his father too. Surprisingly, Ruchir didn't react at all." But things took a turn for the worse.

According to the source, "Soon, poor Ruchir was drenched in alcohol and didn't know what to do. People were just coming up to him and throwing drinks on his head and face. Finally, things got so bad for Ruchir that his security guards had to escort him out. The crowd had become really uncontrollable."

Dad says
Lalit Modi did not deny that such an incident had taken place. He, however, added, "What you said is not exactly what happened, but I'd rather not comment on it. The police are looking into the matter."

Due to the IPL controversy, has it now become difficult for Ruchir and other members of the Modi family to venture out in public? "I don't want to comment on this issue at all," Modi said.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the lounge bar said, "It's not true. Ruchir was having dinner at a restaurant nearby and dropped in for a short time at our lounge bar. There was no such incident at all."

The business manager and CEO of the lounge bar, said, "It's a rumour. I am not sure if Ruchir had come to our night club because I went to the club late. I had no information of him coming to the club and if Ruchir had come and if there was indeed a problem, I would have definitely known about it."

Kamal Haasan's Younger Daughter Akshara Wants to Be a Filmmaker

Shruti Haasan's little sister has filmmaking on her mind. Will assist Rahul Dholakia on his Society, which stars her mom, Sarika

Akshara Haasan, Kamal Hassan's younger daughter

Unlike her sister Shruti Hassan, Kamal Haasan's younger daughter Akshara wants to become a filmmaker. She is currently assisting Rahul Dholakia on his film Society, which also features her mom, Sarika.

The 19-year-old wants to learn every aspect of filmmaking. When Sarika heard that she wanted to learn the ropes, she had a word with Rahul and got Akshara on board the film.

The right guy...
Sarika has worked with Rahul on Parzania and is quite impressed with his style. She thought he was the right person to train her daughter. Akshara has no plans of facing the camera, like her parents. She's strictly interested in the technical aspect of cinema: editing, special effects and direction.

A source adds, "A few months back, Dimple Kapadia's nephew Karan was assisting Rahul for a short while during his summer holidays. Now it's Akshara's turn. He's more than willing to share his knowledge with these kids."

Even though Sarika and Karan have star connections, Rahul treated them like any other interns. Says a crew member, "They didn't get any preferential treatment just because of their relations with actors. Both of them were extremely bright and ready to learn

Imtiaz On his marriage
Most films of Director Imtiaz Ali are based on run away marriages but he himself dindn't have one. He Says "I didn’t have a runaway marriage but I got married at the age of 23. We were from a small town, it was a Hindu-Muslim thing, nobody was really sure of what to do. Then, there was also the thought that ‘I’m seeing her so I have to get married to her.’ I soon moved cities and thought to myself that the only way we can be together is by marriage. I started the process of convincing everybody at 21, at 23 when I did get married, people were ok with it".

So it wasn’t really a runaway marriage?
We did not have to ultimately, although we did consider it. Which is why people keep running away in my movies ... that’s what you are coming to, which is fine. This thought struck me even when I was shooting Socha Na Tha.

Mallika Sarabhai Talks About Children Revanta and Anahita

Danseuses Mrinalini and Mallika Sarabhai are paving the way for the next generation of the Sarabhais, with Revanta and Anahita making music along the corridors of Darpana.

Danseuses Mrinalini (R) and Mallika Sarabhai (R2) With Revanta and Anahita (L)

They have grown up watching their mother and grandmother set the stage on fire and now, after tutoring themselves in the familiar tradition of dance and backing up the unique opportunity of home schooling with formal education in this discipline, Revanta, 25, and his sister Anahita, 19, are slowly but steadily making their presence felt in the decision making process at Darpana.

Mallika Sarabhai has been known to speak her mind, follow her heart and make her own rules, despite the ire she has may have garnered from critics along the way. Her passion for dance, however, has been a steady flow. For sometime now Revanta and Anahita have been accompanying their mother to performances across the world, often basking in the glory of being Mrinalini’s grandchildren as well. Dance has been a way of their life. Such that their mother Mallika notes, “I can rely on them totally for clarity, professionalism, chutzpah and perfection.”

That’s a mother and a dancer at best. While Mallika’s biggest influence in dance is “Amma without a doubt”, she does discuss performances with her children. “The good, the bad and the awful.” Anahita looks upon her mother for reference points as well. “She blends her world with the one around her, breaks accepted lines of what art ‘is’ and ‘must be’ to recreate something interesting. These are things that excite me and draw me to do the kind of work I hope to do,” Anahita says.

And then there is much swapping of ideas among the siblings as well. “In fact, when we are watching something together, we have the same opinion on the piece. But it’s also as often that we differ in our views of how something we are working on should be taken forward. I think we both enjoy being able to discuss our dancing with each other, but we are usually on one of two extremes - either exactly on the same page or in two different books altogether,” she says.

Revanta is the more relaxed of the two and feels that it is special that Anahita and he often act or dance together. “In that sense we discuss our work as co-performers. However, we haven’t yet started creating work together,” says Revanta. He feels that his exposure to world performances while studying in Philadelphia added to his growth too.

Anahita feels that she offers a “different dialogue”, with each “Revu, Ma and Amma (as Mrinalini is fondly called)”, and yet, “I know my grandmother, mother and brother well enough to know who to turn to for specific things. When I ask all three and get different opinions, I balance it out to make a good decision. That is an art in itself, really.”

Their distinct behavioural pattern came to fore when after a long journey in dance, Mallika decided to contest the Lok Sabha election in 2009 as an independent candidate. She may not have won, but her children took away much from that experience. While Revanta learnt about the “politics of our people, breakdown of basic democratic systems, and the nature of human beings”; Anahita, being the youngest, realised “the state of the city as well as people’s minds were worse than we thought it was”.

“I was scared to learn how easy it was to buy people and how ready they were to be bought because of the circumstances they lived in. Actually, that made us want to work even harder at winning the election,” she avers. It is very clear which one of the two takes after the mother. Mallika blushes in affirmation: “Anahita will fight battles for justice as I do. Revanta is more reflective, cautious, more like my brother than me. Anahita will jump into the fray without thinking of consequences.”

Given how closely knit the family is, was dance an inevitability for the children then?

“Whether I like it or not, it really is in my blood. That doesn’t mean I don’t passionately love it. Having grown up around dancers, waking up to music, seeing the fire and power in movement, it was tough to stay away from something so extraordinary,” says Anahita.

Her brother has a unique take: “I don’t know what I would be doing if I wasn’t born into this family. Fact is, I was never forced, or even gently coerced into dancing. I grew up on the Darpana campus. It was all around me and I felt a calling very early in my childhood. Over the years, it became a career. Dance is my most natural way of expression.”

And yet, Revanta doesn’t feel he’s consciously carrying the ‘legacy forward’. “If my becoming a professional dancer makes it a legacy, then that’s what it is,” he defines. Anahita, instead, believes she is a “strong, opinionated woman who is not afraid of speaking her mind or fighting for what I believe is right”. She elaborates: “I care about the world and have discovered the joy in using a medium that does not involve hatred to communicate with the people in it.”

Grandmother Mrinalini looks on fondly. “I feel it’s all been worth its while. Mallika took on the role of establishing and making Natarani what it is today. Her education at the IIM-A helped her manage everything well and I feel good about the way things have turned out,” says the senior Sarabhai.

Interview With Shammi Kapoor's Son Aditya Raj Kapoor Who Stars in Rahul Dholakia's Society With Randhir Kapoor

Shammi Kapoor's son Aditya Raj Kapoor has made his acting debut at 53. His two films have released recently – Mumbai 118 and Chase. He has directed three films and did bit roles in films. He's now doing a role in Society, starring Dimple Kapadia and cousin Randhir Kapoor. So two grandsons of the late Prithiviraj Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor and Aditya Raj Kapoor will play cameo roles in Rahul Dholakia's film. While Randhir Kapoor is son of the late Raj Kapoor, Aditya is the son of Shammi Kapoor. This will be the first time that these two Kapoors will be seen together in the same frame.

IBNMovies gets talking with the actor Aditya Raj Kapoor on movies, and also about his nephew Ranbir Kapoor and his nieces Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapur. Excerpts:

Pictures: Shammi Kapoor With His Son Aditya Raj Kapoor

How important is it for you to be a Kapoor?
I'm very proud to be a Kapoor and carry forward the legacy. My grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor nurtured people in the industry – 75 family members itself, and many music directors, and so on. We have the blessings of all of them.

What has been the response to your acting in Chase?
It's a very slick film, and people have liked me in it. This is my second films as a villain, the first one being Mumbai 118 in which I played an elderly businessman who falls in love with a prostitute.

Why did you stay away from acting for so long?
I was not mentally qualified to be an actor. Also, my spiritual guru had advised me to take up acting later on in life. But I did direct three films abroad, Shamaal, Sambar Salsa and Don't Stop Dreaming.

Are you very spiritual?
Yes, I am. I even got married in my guru's ashram. I want to go by the science of spirituality rather than just blindly follow something.

Were you nervous while shooting with Dimple Kapadia and Randhir Kapoor for Society? Also tell us something about the film and your role.
Well, it was a historical moment. I had assisted Raj Kapoor on Bobby, so I know Dimple from those days. But I was nervous when shooting with her. My cousin Randhir Kapoor helped me loosen up. Both treated me like a newcomer and took care of me. In fact, my being in the film was a surprise for Randhir. He was in tears when he saw me. As for my role, it's a cameo.

You'd said before that you get 'cold feet' while acting. How have you been able to overcome that?
Acting is there in my genes. I have to learn to drive a car, or say, be an astronaut. I don't know how to learn acting. My mother and father both were actors. So, people tell me I'm very natural. Jag Mundhra also told me not to act in Chase, but simply be matter-of-fact.

If you had to choose between Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor as actors, who would you choose?
I would choose my father, definitely. I'm built like that and I feel today there's a gap for his kind of acting. He had also done roles with grey shades…. But I respect Rajji – I have learnt everything from Raj Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor.

Tell us the one thing you have learnt from your father Shammi Kapoor…did he give you any acting tips?
My father has always told me to keep my best foot forward, keep smiling and be adventurous. About acting, he told me that even if your back is to the audience, don't worry. Whatever body part faces the camera is your face.

If you had to choose between Ranbir, Kareena and Karisma, who would you go for?
All three are different. I think Ranbir is cute and has a full 20 years to showcase his acting. Karisma is an excellent actor, especially in films like Fiza. Kareena is extremely pretty. You can't take your eyes off her. And in films like Asoka and Chameli, she told the hero what she can do and carried the story forward.

About reviving the RK banner – what kind of films are you guys looking at? And what is your role in the process?
Well, Randhir is taking care of it, and whenever he calls me, I'm there for him.

Are you as Net savvy as Shammi Kapoor?
Yes, I'm on Facebook, though not on Twitter. I will soon have my website.

What are your forthcoming projects?
I'm again playing a negative role in Deewangi Ne Had Kar Di. Plus there's a film with Rajshri Pictures. And there are these boutique films which are being offered to me. I'm all for supporting young, new filmmakers with fresh ideas.
