The year 2012 will see a slew of bollywood star kids make their entry into films. They have an illustrious second name, but do they also have the required talent to make it big?

ARJUN KAPOOR:
Boney Kapoor’s son Arjun is one of the most awaited faces this year. Arjun is making his debut in Ishaqzaade opposite Priyanka Chopra’s cousin Parineeti Chopra. The Yash Raj film is written and directed by Habib Faisal of Do Dooni Chaar fame. Arjun started assisting his father in their production company at the age of 20. He was also assistant director in films like Salaam-E-Ishq, No Entry, Wanted and Milenge Milenge. He was soon bitten by the acting bug and is now being touted as one of the hottest debutants in 2012. Arjun is already in the news for his off screen camaraderie with Anushka Sharma.

VARUN DHAWAN:
David Dhawan's second son Varun has worked with Karan Johar in many films including assisting him in My Name is Khan. Not surprisingly, he will make his grand entry into Bollywood with Karan’s next directorial Student of the Year that is already creating enough buzz. Varun's older brother Rohit ventured into Bollywood with Desi Boyz in 2011, albeit behind the camera. And now, David Dhawan’s second son is all set to burn the screen with Karan Johar’s film this year.

TANUJ VIRWANI:
Rati Agnihotri’s son Tanuj Virmani is making a Bollywood debut opposite model-turned-actress Neha Hinge in a romantic comedy called Luv U Soniyo. While Tanuj plays a atholic boy in the film, Neha plays a Punjabi girl. The film directed by debutant director Joe Rajan is slated for May 11, 2012 release. Rati Agnihotri’s debut Ek Duje Ke Liye went on to become a classic. And now all eyes are on her son Tanuj, who will take his first steps into Bollywood.

SIDDHANT KAPOOR:
Shakti Kapoor’s son Siddhanth is debuting in Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala. He was supposed to make his debut in Sanjay Dutt's remake of Satte Pe Satta, directed by Soham Shah but the film is on the backburner. Siddhant after waiting to be launched by Sanjay Dutt, decided to make his big Bollywood debut with Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala. Following daddy’s footsteps, Siddhant too has decided to play a baddie.

There are 2 others - Rahul Bhatt and Tiger Shroff - whose debut films are undecided and they may or may not make their debuts this year. We include them in the poll too.

RAHUL BHATT
Mahesh Bhatt's son Rahul Bhatt's Debut film is still undecided. Whether he will make his debut this year, is not clear. Earlier there were rumors that he will enter with Jism 2 but now it is clear that he will not be part of the film. It can be recalled that Rahul’s entry into the limelight wasn’t a pleasant one. His name made headlines across media for his alleged links with terrorist David Headly. He even tried his luck with reality television. Last heard that Bhatt Junior is writing a script on his interaction with the Lashkar -e- Taiba and his experience in the Headley case.

TIGER SHROFF (JAI):
Jackie Shroff's son Tiger is unlikely to make his debut this year. But buzz is that the curly-haired, fairs skinned Tiger, who has been working on his six-packs will be launched by non other than Aamir Khan. Subhash Ghai was supposed to launch him earlier.

Jackie Shroff’s son Jai, also known as Tiger, hates being known as a star son making his debut in Bollywood. He is worried about the buildup, “There’s a lot of pressure and expectations from me,” says the 20-year-old.

It has been reported that Aamir Khan is interested in signing him for his production and that the actor is taking personal interest in his grooming. Tiger explains, “Well, we just worked out together for a day. He invited me to train with him and it was an amazing experience and almost like a dream come true. He’s so dedicated and was a great inspiration. Despite his superstar status, he’s so humble and down to earth. I got to learn a lot from him.”

When asked if he feels the pressure to deliver from his dad and mom Ayesha, a producer, he says, “Of course I do! I feel double the pressure, which is why I want to take my time and let the right script come to me. Also, my parents give me advice when required on what kind of films I should do, but eventually the decision is mine.”

Tiger, a martial arts student, sees himself in an out-and-out action film in the future. “I think my first film should have some great action sequences. But I don’t want them to be filmi and forced. There should be a story to the action, like the movie – Karate Kid. I see myself in that kind of a film where the script is so strong that the fight scenes are part of the storyline. Of course, romance will also be an integral part of any film, but I don’t want to do the cliched stuff. I wake up in the morning, go to my dance classes and then martial arts training. I started off at an early age, so that has been helpful,” says Tiger.

The 33 year old Lara Dutta and her new born daughter are both keeping good health. Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupati had tied the knot on February 16, 2011.

Over the last few days, Lara has been busy setting up house for the little one. "It's fun having my parents here and getting the house baby ready! Anticipation and excitement in the air!:-) feels good 2 start 2012 like that," Lara wrote on her Twitter page some days ago.

The sportstar was keen on having a daughter. “Mahesh is very excited and would like to have a daughter. However, as a mother, when you are going through the experience of carrying a baby for nine months, the first-and-foremost priority is to have a healthy baby,” Lara had told HT Cafe.

During her baby shower, Lara had stated that 90 per cent predictions suggested it’s a baby boy. She had said: “And as for us, we don’t know. So, we will be equally surprised. I don’t mind if it’s a boy or a girl.”

Predictions might have gone wrong, but the couple is surely on cloud nine with the new addition to the family.

Lara Dutta made her debut in Bollywood in the year 2003 with 'Andaaz'. She had won the Filmfare award for best newcomer for the same film.

Sooraj Barjatya, Aditya Chopra, Karan Johar .... and now it is Vishesh Bhatt, son of Mukesh Bhatt, who, is readying himself to take over the his father’s banner named after him.

In an exclusive interview, Mahesh Bhatt confirmed the news, saying, “It’s true. Vishesh has the resolve, and will now engage with the real world more than what he was willing to do earlier. Having watched the company and its people from the wings, he has shown a willingness to make movies. He is essentially a writer and a director, and wants to make a foray as director. I think he will make a beginning by the end of this year”. Asked about Vishesh Films’ 25-year journey, Mahesh says, “It’s been exciting, challenging, uplifting… we’ve just begun and have miles to go.”

The turning point was when Mahesh “discovered that the world had changed and so had the lingua franca,” and decided to hang his gloves as a director in the 90s, turning to film production instead. Around the same time, he decided not to continue making socially relevant films, “the kind the world pretends to love but does not pay money to see.” The other critical decision taken by him was to embrace the pattern of making films without stars. “Mukesh and I never ever sat down and wished for a particular actor to be available to us. Our successes namely Arth or even Aashiqui for that matter didn’t have any stars. Then again, I happen to be the only director in the world who has made two flops with Shah Rukh Khan - Duplicate and Chahat. So whether a hit or a miss, it meant that an actor never succeeds or fails. It is the filmmaker, the story, the filmmaker’s vision that succeeds or fails.” And, something for which Vishesh has constantly come under criticism – an overdose of sexual content – started as a conscious decision back then. “The purists pretended to scream ‘what deterioration?’ but it wasn’t deterioration; it was evolution. I’m still here. Where are they? There was no point in singing a Mehdi Hassan song when the audience wanted to hear a fast-paced, strong, back-beat Atif Aslam number. And so, we changed,” says Mahesh in his defence.

As regards sexual content, he says, “I dare anybody to see Kalyug, a film we made with Kunal Khemmu, as pornography. There was no nudity at all. Neal n Nikki had more T & A in it. The so-called family film!” What followed was a major departure from the Mahesh Bhatt of Arth, Saaransh, Aashiqui or Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin and a spate of films with a posse of budding new actors - Raaz, Murder, Kasoor and Gangster happened.

For Mukesh, who calls himself the Government of Vishesh Films, the 12 years have been the best years of his life. “Since I am the money man, economically, they were more fruitful than what it was when I worked with the so-called stars. It gave me self-esteem and respectability.”

Ever the optimist, Mukesh says, “I can say with pride now, that we have given a box-office hit every single year of the decade, without any stars. It can’t be a fluke for 12 years consistently. You have to have something in you. This company is not only known for making movies but also destinies. That is more elevating and satisfactory, where we carve out the space for actors, directors, singers, music composers, writers.”

Mahesh, whom Mukesh refers to as the creative fountainhead of the banner, is more realistic, “Boxing and filmmaking are the same. Before the referee starts counting you out -10, 9, 8, 7 - you have got to get up and hit back and we’ve done that always. There’s never been a year where we have been inactive. Almost after every major hit, came a series of failures.” Right now, Vishesh Films is on a roll, what with Murder 2 having set the cash registers ringing; And as Mahesh adds, fists clenched, “We’ve burnt our bridges. We don’t have room for failure. We have to succeed.”

Sons of veteran stars Dev Anand and Shammi Kapoor get ready to revive their careers. It’s nostalgia all over
Birth and death, they say, go hand-inhand. And in Bollywood, recent deaths of veteran actors seem to have lived up to this saying and given a lease of life to posterity. Following Shammi Kapoor's death, his son Aditya, decided to revive his Bollywood career and act in director Kadar Kashmiri’s Ali Peter John. Similarly, the late Dev Anand’s son Sunil is also making his comeback with the same film.

Sunil, who made his Bollywood debut with his father Dev Anand’s venture Anand Aur Anand in 1984, was last seen in the 2001 film Master. Aditya Raj Kapoor, on the other hand, after assisting uncle Raj Kapoor in three films, had decided to go separate as an entrepreneur. And now, both will make a comeback to where they began.

Produced by Ashwin Kumar Productions, director Kadar’s film is a satire. A close friend of Dev Anand, Kadar, who has also worked with the star in two films, remembered his days with the veteran star and said, “A few days before his death, I had discussed the idea of Ali Peter John with Dev sahab. He liked the idea and asked who would act in it. So I expressed my desire to cast Sunil. Dev sahab was excited about it. He, however, asked me to talk to Sunil directly.”

Kadar, who has also directed Shammi Kapoor in the 1986 film Karamdata added, “I have been closely associated with both Dev Anand and Shammi Kapoor. I have learnt a lot from them. I have seen their sons Sunil and Aditya grow up. It is an emotional moment for me to direct my friends' kids.”

Excited about the project, Sunil told Mirror, “I have been busy with a lot of things simultaneously. I was helping father with his work and handling a few productions. Now I am very excited about making a comeback on screen.”

The 24-year-old Mustafa will be seen in an interesting cameo opposite Sonam Kapoor in the upcoming film. The sequence was shot in Russia.

Explaining his role in the film, Mustafa says, “I enjoyed doing my bit in my dad’s film. But my goal is to become a director. I love filmmaking. In fact, I have done a course in New York Film Academy.”

“It is a short scene with Sonam where she tries to seduce me so that she can reach her destination. In the end, she gets what she wanted but I end up getting nothing,” Mustafa added.

The cameo did not deter Mustafa from getting some hands-on experience in filmmaking either. “I assisted my father during Players. It was a rather good learning experience,” said Mustafa. And like his father, Mustafa too, likes thrillers. “I prefer horror thrillers

Trivia About Kamal Siddu:

Kamal was born in the Philippines, where she stayed till the age of six. Later they moved to Canada, where she was educated.

Prior to being in TV shows and in the modeling industry, Kamal Sidhu was an athlete, training to compete at the Olympics Games in Atlanta, representing Canada in the heptathlon. An unfortunate injury abruptly ended her dreams and made her to pursue other avenues. She was advised by a cousin, and consequently entered the Miss India-Canada contest in 1991, to which she won first runner-up.

In the early ’90s, Kamal Sidhu was a svelte model from Canada whose olive skin, washboard abs and ruffled locks made heads turn the world over.

In India, she started her career with Channel V and later MTV Asia. She also worked with channel AXN in this same country. One of the first few 'Indian' VJs, Sidhu and her Canadian accent were hugely popular with the teen population, many imitating her style of dress, hair and talking.

Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao became proud parents of a baby boy on December 1. The baby was born through IVF to a surrogate mother at a private clinic in Mumbai.

Apparently, Aamir sent a letter to Mumbai-based tabloids, stating: 'It gives us the greatest joy to share with you the good news of the birth of our baby boy. This baby is especially dear to us because he was born to us after a long wait and some difficulty. Due to medical complications, we were advised to have a baby through IVF -Surrogacy and we feel very grateful to the Almighty that everything has gone well. We are so happy and would like to thank all our well wishers'

The couple who were married in December 2005 in Panchgani had earlier suffered a tragic loss when they lost their first baby in 2009. Aamir had then written on his blog, on 12 August, 2009, titled, I will be away for a while.

“I have bad news folks. Kiran and I lost our baby. Despite our best efforts we were unable to avert a miscarriage. The last 2 months have been a struggle for us and that is one of the reasons I was absent from the blog in more ways than one. K and I need time to heal. I will be away for a while. Love.”

Aamir has two other children - Junaid (Photo 1, Photo 2) and Ira (Photo 1, Photo 2) - from his first wife, Reena Dutta. This new addition to their family is Kiran’s first baby and Aamir Khan's third after Junaid and Ira.

First Picture of Aishwarya Rai's Baby Daughter During Discharge From Hospital

After spending a week in Seven Hills hospital, in northeast Mumbai where she gave birth to a baby girl, Aishwarya Rai got discharged.

As Aishwarya made her way out, she was accompanied by her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, her parents, and of course, her baby daughter. An excited Abhishek was also present (not seen in the picture below).

Amitabh held the baby, wrapped in pink, and looked like quite the proud grandfather.

Abhishek drove the family car to their home, Jalsa, in Juhu.

Govinda’s daughter Narmada Ahuja’s big Bollywood debut faced many hurdles in the past. The film, which was supposed to star boxing champion Vijender Singh, hit a roadblock when reportedly the sportsman refused to be a part of the project.

However, director Lovely Singh seems to have finally solved all problems. Narmada will now be romancing Vinod Khanna’s nephew Akhil Kapoor in the film titled Tutak Tootak Tutiyan. The film will go on floors in December this year.

When contacted, Lovely Singh said, “We never signed Vijender Singh. He was considered for the role since the film is based in North India. However, when we saw Akhil and did a few screen tests with him, we knew we have found our man.”

“Akhil worked as an assistant in Race, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd and Salaam-E-Ishq. He understands cinema. He is everything I want from my lead,” added Singh.

Coming from a political family, what inspired you to venture into movies?
This was my childhood dream. I always wanted to be in movies.It’s by default that I come from a political background but despite that I always wanted to be an actor.

I have heard your family is academically oriented and your cousins are engineers or doctors? How did your dad react when you told him that you want to be an actor?
The family I come from, they always expected me to be a doctor or an engineer if not enter politics. It wasn’t such a shock to them because since childhood they saw my interest in acting. They have always seen me doing plays in school and college.

Did your political background make it easy for you to break into Bollywood?
I will not shy away from the fact that coming from a political family or having a heavyweight surname does help an easy entry into any field, not only movies. But eventually everything boils down to your talent. If you don’t have the potential you will be kicked out the very next time. I have struggled too. Anuj Saxena who is a family friend came with the offer.

You took lessons to learn tennis for the film?
When I decided to be an actor I wasn’t still mentally prepared. It took me a year- and- half to shift to Mumbai and start working. I am a tennis player in the film, so I underwent a rigorous training. I played tennis eight to ten hours everyday, for eight months.

You get to romance three girls in your debut movie — Kangna Ranaut, Neeru Bajwa and Sagarika Ghatge?
Yes I couldn’t have asked for a better debut, honestly. This is like a dream come true.

In your first film, three beautiful girls supporting you! Being the only newcomer on the sets, did you feel nervous?
Not really! I was very confident and just concentrating on my bit. All my co- stars were very supportive. The only time I was dead nervous was when there was this intimate scene with Kangna in Goa. I was just not prepared for that. It was shot right in the middle of the road with loads of people watching us.

Buzz is that you are dating Neeru?
No, no, no. We get along well.Our likes and interest are the same. I know it will sound clichéd but she is a very good friend ( Laughs).

That is such a politically correct answer!
What to do? I come from a political family. ( Smiles)

Do you want to get into politics at some point in life?
Absolutely! Politics run in my family.

Is this movie one-off for you or are you here to stay?
Definitely! I am here to stay for at least 10 to 15 years. Movies are my absolute priorities.

How do you plan to promote the film?
We are starting our promotional campaign from Patna which is my home town and then we will do a city tour of Delhi, Jaipur and few places in Punjab as Neeru is from there.

Who is your role model in Bollywood?
No matter how clichéd it may sound but an aspiring actor cannot look beyond Amitabh Bachchan. He is a one-man institution. I have also grown up watching Shah Rukh’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Salman Khan’s Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.

From the current crop of leading ladies, who do you find the hottest?
A part of my heart says Katrina and Priyanka, while the other says Deepika and Kareena. So I think my heart is confused.

Buzz is that Sunny Deol is planning to launch his son Karan, better known as Rocky, in Bollywood with Betaab 2. Over 28 years ago, Sunny had taken his first step in filmdom with Rahul Rawail’s Betaab with Amrita Singh as his co- star.

Says a source, “ Sunny is keen to consolidate their home banner under which he wants to launch Rocky. Though still in the early stages, a lot of ideas have been tossed around.

Sunny is contemplating a sequel to introduce his son to B- Town.” The actor has been known to keep his family away from the media glare. Adds the source, “ Sunny is keen to complete his pending assignments and wait for the right moment to launch his offspring.” Last year, Sunny had confessed that both his sons Rocky, 20, and the younger, Rajvir, 16 were interested in doing films.

Though he had maintained that it was too early and that they had to prepare themselves for it.

Rocky had even enrolled in an acting school run by Rawail, who Sunny considers his close friend and mentor. It was Rawail’s 1985 flick Arjun that made Sunny an action star.

Graduating to song writing
When I came back from England with a graduation degree three months ago, I was consumed with the idea of penning a song. My graduation ceremony was a very emotional experience. We had to enter the hall from one door and exit from another, and couldn't come back again. The thought of seeing the journey end so abruptly after having worked so hard inspired me to compose Graduation.

I like it
Initially, when I made dad hear it, I was really scared about his reaction because he's totally blunt. Thankfully, he loved it and decided to produce it. He then emailed the song to Aamir (Khan) uncle, asking him for his feedback on it. The next thing I knew, he had posted the track on his Facebook page. Rohan (Sippy) uncle told me that after hearing the song he wanted to reconnect with his college buddies.

What I find surprising it that there aren't enough songs on the graduation ceremonies when we all know that it’s a very important occasion in our lives.

The English connection
Graduation has been a 'tester' to gauge how people respond to my chord formations and my lyrics. It ended up being in English because that's the language I think in.

When I was growing up, we as a family would keep heading to Delhi whenever dad got a break from shooting. And I loved those holidays because we got to stay in our palatial bungalow there. I would have a blast playing in the garden and mollycoddling our pet stray dog. And dad ensured that we had a perfect holiday.

Boston bound

I fell in love with my dad all over again the moment he agreed to let me go to Boston to study. You see, he's always been an overly protective father who never even allowed me to go on school trips with my friends. But when I got admission to a university in Boston, he was so happy that he allowed me to leave home. However, his only condition was that my mom should accompany me till I settled in. I packed her off in a month's time ( laughs).

My dad's always been the comedian of the house. What you see on screen is only 10 per cent of the funnyman in him. So, I've laughed my childhood away thanks to him. He's played pranks on every member of the family.

Believe it or not, when my brother and I were growing up, dad would set up spy cameras in the house to capture our crazy moments. He’s got funny videos of me dancing to Naam Mera Prem Kali, my brother skating on powdersmeared floor and both of us wearing his dhinchak jackets. Dad has always loved taking pictures. Even now, when he thinks that I'm looking beautiful, he'll take a picture of me ( smiles).

Filmy fun

One of my favourite memories of my dad is when I shared screen space with him in teen Patti. That's the day when I fumbled the most on the sets. But he kept telling me to forget that I was his daughter, and that did the trick for me.

In India, it is an unspoken rule that an actor’s child becomes an actor and a politician’s child takes up politics. It also so happens that many actors also make the transition to being politicians over time. So, it may come as a surprise when the son of a former minister and current Rajya Sabha m e m b e r decides to shun politics and instead is lured by the glitz and glamour of showbiz.

Chirag Paswan, the 26-yearold son of MP Ram Vilas Paswan, is all set for his tryst with the world of cinema. He will be seen with Kangna Ranaut in his debut film Miley Naa Miley Hum that will hit screens on November 4.

His love for showbiz began early on, says the debutant, adding that he’d watch films, lock himself in the bathroom and stand in front of a mirror for hours enacting the whole movie in his own way. “I am a movie buff. I idolize Amitabh Bachchan. I’ve walked around shirtless after watching a Salman film and have even tried stuttering after watching a Shah Rukh film,” says Chirag.

Miley Naa Miley Hum, meanwhile, is a romantic film with a serious message, says Chirag. “It deals with kids without conventional families and their emotional journeys,” he says. The film also stars Neeru Singh Bajwa and Sagarika Ghatge. “I get to romance three girls in my first film, I couldn’t have asked for more,” laughs Chirag. In real life, though, the youngster claims to be single and ready to mingle. “I’m not dating anyone,” he says.

What about rumours about a link-up with his leading lady Kangna during the making of the film? “Kangna and I are good friends, but I realize the term ‘good friends’ takes on a different meaning in the film industry. We had a good time laughing about the rumours. The fact that we were laughing means that we enjoyed reading about ourselves. The day the media stops writing about us there will be a problem. Suneil Anand Biography

Suneil Anand, Son of legendary 'evergreen' actor Dev Anand, was born on June 30th 1956 in the Bombay-based Punjabi-speaking family of Dev and Mona Anand. His actress mom's screen name was Kalpana Kartik. Vijay and Chetan Anand are his uncles. He is cousin to famous director Shekhar Kapoor. Neelu and Aruna are his other cousins and are the estranged wives of actors Navin Nischol, and Parikshat Sahni. He has been trained in martial arts from grandmaster Sifu Leung Ting. He debuted as an actor in 'Anand Aur Anand' in 1984, and went on to act in 3 more movies, his last one being 'Master' in 2001. He graduated from the American University, Washington, D.C. with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and then joined his Father's Film Production Company Navketan International Films. Today he is actively involved with the company.

Suneil Anand makes India's first martial arts movie

Having tried his luck as an actor, Dev Anand's son Suneil Anand has stepped into direction with Master, a film based on martial arts.

Master has many firsts to it. Besides being Suneil's maiden directorial venture the film is the first martial arts film to be made in India. Also it is the first Indian film that is shot in China.

Suneil himself has been a student of martial arts for eighteen years and has gone through its arduous study in Hong Kong under the baton of Grandmaster Sifu Leung Ting. That's where he conceived the idea of making this movie. He even roped in his reluctant teacher to play a significant role in the film.

Suneil is convinced the film will do well as it is based on the original idea and also has some romance strewn around the spine tickling fights. Music director Viju Shah has composed its score.

Having grown under his father's imposing shadow Suneil was always too enamored with the world of films. Still he didn't hop on to the tinsel bandwagon at the first available opportunity but rather went to the US and did a double major in Business Administration and Mass Communication. After coming back to India, Suneil made his acting debut in Anand Aur Anand.

But being an actor was probably not in his fate as his debut and three more films fell flat on box office.

A new awakening Ironically, I never understood the value of young fans when I was doing films like Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke or say, Bol Radha Bol. In fact, I used to get jumpy and irritated when I would see kids around me. I guess a part of it was because I was too stressed all the time, working 24x7. It was only after becoming a mother that I fathomed the purity and innocence of a child's affection. Once, when we were planning a family outing and my kids and Jai (husband) weren't listening to me, I stormed off saying, " You guys go for the trip, I am not coming with you." Minutes later, my son Arjun came to me and said sweetly, " Mamma, we want you to come because everything seems more fun with you around." My heart melted in a second.

Mom's the word
I don't categorise myself as a disciplinarian or a friendly mom. I am just like any regular mother. I worry about normal things like how many hours they are spending before the TV or computer, have they eaten a balanced diet or is the homework in place. I grew up in a multi-storied building in Cuffe Parade, and we kids used to gang up in the compound every evening. My kids live in a bungalow, so they miss out on this kind of social interaction. Also, I feel that kids today suffer from information overload. There is so much pressure on them about looks, clothes, brands, academics, etc. My daughter, Janhavi, is on the brink of becoming a teenager. When I see her friends talking about having a great figure, dressing in skimpy clothes and sporting brands, it does bother me. I don't want my kids to run after materialistic pursuits. They should enjoy life as it comes to them.

Childhood revisited
As a child, I was very conscientious. I used to study hard so that I could get good marks and please my parents. Though I had a naughty side, I never had the wild streak to do something untoward. But the only mischief I was always upto was trying to skip my classical dance classes. I would hide in my friends' home if my tutor was five minutes late. Then, my mom would go scouting for me, and drag me back.

Nowadays, when I want to have some fun, I play board games with Arjun before or after a meal. That's how I reconnect with my childhood.

"(I) Came to Mumbai to celebrate the birth of my best friend, my brother Zayed & Malaika's second baby! To all my Tweeties....AARIZ arrives! God Bless! Jai Balaji...The most beautiful baby boy I have ever seen! Looks like a little Strawberry! God Bless Aariz Khan," Gangwani posted on Twitter.

Zayed's 'Love Breakups Zindagi', which has been produced under the banner of Born Free Entertainment, jointly owned by Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha, will release Oct 7.

The 31-year-old is the son of veteran actor Sanjay Khan.

I had a blissful pregnancy where I just relaxed and enjoyed myself. But yes, the initial years of motherhood were quite taxing. While I was getting quite a few film offers, I couldn't take them up, as I had no physical energy left whatsoever. Nursing the baby had totally drained me out. Now, my daughter Aryana is four years old, so I can manage to take out some time for work.

Trust me, I really enjoyed being a hands-on mother. It was the best role I ever
played in my life. Motherhood has made me more empathetic, compassionate,
patient and selfless. Previously, I used to lose my cool whenever my staff would
come late or with other such trivial things. But now, I am more adjusting. Being a mother has taught me to look inwards.

Khan mania

My daughter is a film buff like me. She goes to playschool and hardly watches television, but she's crazy about Salman Khan. Aryana loves to sing Character Dheela Hai. For her, Salman Khan is the ultimate thing in this world. A few days back, I asked her what would she gift to her grandmom on her birthday. Aryana promptly said, "Salman Khan" (laughs out loud). As for me, I really like Imran Khan amongst the newer breed of actors. I find him really cute. But I don't know whether I can ever be paired romantically with Imran. The only pairing I can foresee is of friends or colleagues in a film. After all, I don't want to look like a cradle snatcher!

In front of the camera

Well, a lot of actresses who are mothers like Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor and Kajol are doing quality work post motherhood. In fact, even yesteryear actresses like Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee Gulzar did some great films after becoming moms. And I am glad to see that the stereotype of a Bollywood heroine is slowly fading away. There are great character roles for actors. I love comedy, romance and action films. In fact, I want to do a great action flick, as I have never experimented in that genre. The new wave cinema of this era is truly exciting. I would love to work with directors like Vishal Bharadwaj, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap.

While shooting for the horror thriller, the director realised that he needed a pianist. His daughter, who was on the sets assisting him, was the perfect fit.

Explains Vikram, “ There’s a scene in the movie where the lead actress ( Tia Bajpai) is attending a piano class. I needed a pianist and that’s when my daughter came to mind.” Krishna is a Class XI student at the Ryan Global School. The 16- year- old is obviously very excited to be directed by her father in her debut film.

Prefers acting A sixth- grade pianist, Krishna has been learning the instrument for eight years now. The youngster harbours acting aspirations. “ When she began assisting me during 1920, she told me she was interested in direction. But she was fooling me, I know she prefers acting first.” For the past three years, Vikram has been spotted with his daughter ( from his ex- wife Aditi) at various B- Town events. In fact, all his story ideas and scripts are narrated to his daughter. Bhatt feels he get instant reactions through her expressions and accordingly works on the script.

Vikram was 14 when he started with Mukul Anand’s Kanoon Kya Karega in 1984. Krishna seems to be following suit at 16.

Action director Abbas Ali Moghul and everyone in the unit were very apprehensive about him performing the stunts. However, Mahakshay not only refused to use a body double but also relentlessly pushed himself for few of the action scenes.

Says Abbas, “Mahakshay has performed some deadly stunts himself in the movie. I remember a particular sequence where a chandelier falls on Mimoh and on the timing he had to roll on the ground before the chandelier bursts beside him. We were a little worried but Mimoh decided to do it all by himself. Though everyone on the sets suggested we use a body double but Mahakshay was very excited on doing it himself.”

Says Mahakshay, “I have had an absolutely fantastic time shooting for this particular action sequence. Though I got few swellings, the entire chandelier shot, the entire effect came out beautifully.”

Earlier Mahakshay also followed a rigorous fitness regime to shed the extra kilos and look leaner for the movie. From reviving his personality to performing the deadly stunts……looks like there’s no stopping Mahakshay!

Like every year, Anya and Diva will be dressed in Parsi-style frocks that Farah’s mother has gifted from a well-known store in south Mumbai.

Hema Malini's Younger Daughter Ahana Deol To Make Acting Debut in a Karan Johar Film, Also Will Mom in Another Film

Hwma Malini and Dharmendra’s youngest born Ahana Deol seems to be wearing many hats. No only would Ahana make her acting debut in Vikram Motwane’s film, news is out that Ahana will direct her mother, veteran actress Hema Malini, in a film she has scripted.

Ahana is giving the script a finishing touch.

“Ahana has been secretly writing a script specially for me. When she finally showed it to me, I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. So yes, Ahana’s film will be my next production. We are so starved for good scripts. Why would I not give her a chance? It’s her gift to me,” says the proud mother Hema Malini.

Though Malini is tightlipped about Ahana’s acting debut, we understand it’s a film about a dysfunctional Sindhi family. It’s called Muqablo and will be produced by Karan Johar.

Apparently, Anurag Kashyap is co-producing the film, and production house UTV is also on board.

This is ironic since Ahana had always maintained that she would not follow her sister, Esha’s footsteps into Bollywood.

“My younger daughter is always surprising everyone, including herself. Yes, she has changed her mind about not acting,” laughed Malini, when asked about Ahana’s change of heart.

However Dharmendra seemed blissfully unaware of his daughter’s plans. He had recently stated in an interview that Ahana would “never” act. Ahana's half brother Bobby Deol too, recently while speaking at a promotional event of his film ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ had quashed the rumors saying that Ahana has no plans to enter into Bollywood.

Meanwhile, Malini’s film, Tell Me Oh Khuda starring older daughter Esha, is ready for release. “Unless the distributors want us to add another song — we have five songs in the film — we’re ready for release. We could’ve released in February immediately after Dharamji’s Yamla Pagla Deewana. But there’s the World Cup, so we’ll wait.” The mother lights up with pride when talking about Yamla Pagla Deewana. “It’s such an entertaining film.

When people say they love the song, Main jat yamla pagla deewana, I like to remind them that Dharamji sang it for me in Pratiggya 36 years ago.”

What’s in a last name? Plenty, if you live in a country where dynasty politics rules and stardom is hereditary in Bollywood. So one would assume that the grandson of veteran Congressman Arjun Singh, Arunoday has it all worked out for him. Not so, says the actor, who got noticed in the Sudhir Mishra-produced turkey, Sikandar, for his portrayal of a terrorist. Aisha followed, where he lent the much-welcome testosterone quotient to the chick flick. Mirch bombed, and now he plays a thug in Yeh Saali Zindagi. The graph and survival rate is not too bad for a newcomer.

The fiendishly tall actor (he’s 6 ft 4) is articulate and candid about his family, work and relationships. “There’s a perception that we get coddled and are surrounded by opportunity. At 21, my father walked away and has been on his own. He raised me the same way,” he says. “There’s no real school in the village outside Bhopal, so I went to a boarding school at six. I got a scholarship to a university in Boston. I was a bit of a nerd, still am. I studied English Literature and minored in Philosophy. My brain is a high maintenance engine and my mother is central to keeping me sane.”

Arunoday went to New York to pursue acting in theatre because a professor told him, ‘You have a modicum of talent. You must nurture it boy, or you will just fritter it away.’ The actor says, “When a man speaks to you like that, you do it.”

He lived in Harlem (where he picked up a love for hiphop, and not the 50 Cents variety) and New York isn’t exactly an affordable place for a struggling actor. “I got cast as an Cuban, the Italian mafia guy. Good times, but lean,” admits Arunoday. “I freelanced, edited other students’ papers. I was a bouncer, earning $400 a night. I’m a decent looking dude, you put me in a suit in the VIP section and I don’t look like a bouncer, but I could throw out a guy if I needed to. I made more money than the guys at the door.”

He landed in Mumbai in between assignments, got a PG place and made a list of directors he admires (Sudhir Mishra, Vishal Bhardwaj). He made his rounds and fortunately for him, the actor Sudhir who was selected to play the terrorist for Sikandar, backed out. Arunoday says, “I only found out later when I was doing Yeh Saali Zindagi that he knew my family.” Mumbai also settled him, given his nomadic streak.

The ‘hyper ambitious’ actor has chosen non-mainstream cinema to make his way. He points out that people like Aamir Khan and Karan Johar are finding the balance between the commercial and the artistic. “I’m taking the circuitous route, but you have to be true to yourself. There’s a very specific skill set needed for commercial cinema. I was never trained for that and I can’t stop asking questions. I feel I have the potential and talent to do artistic work. Our aspirations are evolving. Indians are on the move, we’ve been to London, you don’t need to show us London. It’s not so simple to sell us these dreams.”

His biggest fear is that his choices won’t translate into more work. He says, “Maybe I’m too intellectually arrogant, sometimes I’m very quick to judge. I look at something and think I know the answer. In our industry, there’s no culture of working your way through. It’s an unforgiving place. If I don’t make waves big enough to sustain myself, it would mean my approach is wrong. That would be heartbreaking.”

While he is committed to pursuing acting, he is pursuing women rather than committing to them. He says, “Women I love, women love me. I’m seeing many people. Film people are too highly strung or motivated to ever make good lovers or companions for a stretch. Nobody has time for anybody but themselves. I like calm, chilled people. With my personality, I don’t need another Type A personality. I have entanglements. With women who don’t like to be tied down. I’m just too focused.”

Om Puri Writes a Farewell Letter to Son Ishaan Puri

Now that his separation from his current wife Nandita is imminent, Om Puri has drafted a farewell letter to his son Ishaan to placate his fears and insecurities

Om Puri will be moving on in life this year. His dream home is being built with his first wife, Seema Kapoor, in her hometown, Jhalawar in Rajasthan. At 61, Om is all set to start life again from scratch.

The most sensitive area that needs to be tackled in his separation with his current wife Nandita is his son 11-year-old Ishaan. It was the fear of hurting his son at such a crucial time that has kept Om from making the break so far. But now, says Om, the time has come for him to think of his personal happiness...with Ishaan's approval.

Om has been gradually preparing the child for his separation. But the reasons for the separation and Om's need to start afresh with a woman who is not Ishaan's mother are things too difficult for the child to understand. Om has therefore written a long heartfelt letter to his son which Ishaan will open at the right time.

Says Om, "I thought this was the best way to let Ishaan know that his father is not a bad person. That he is not a deserter. I have to explain to my son why I need to live away from him. I've put it all down in a letter that Ishaan will open after I leave.

I know he will not think unkindly of me once he reads what I have to say. I want him to know that although I'll be staying away from him and his mother I have the highest regard for her. That by leaving I don't mean to disrespect either my son's or his mother's feelings."

This poignant but pragmatic letter has been written, signed, sealed and now waiting to be delivered to the boy as soon as the time is right.

Meanwhile, Om is playing the perfect father. "I'm doing my best. In November I took Ishaan and his mother for a holiday on London, a city that my boy loves. I stayed in the hotel while Ishaan and his mom shopped and went sightseeing to their heart's content with a dear friend of mine.

Right now I'm shooting in a far-flung place near Khajuraho. There are no luxury hotels here. Ishaan said, 'Baba, I want to come and be with you.' I warned him he wouldn't have all the comforts and luxuries that he's used to. But Ishaan and I had so much fun."

Says Om, "I want Ishaan to know his Baba hasn't left him. I will be there for him anytime. I will take him on vacations. I'll be there for all the important events in his life. I don't want my son to think I've deserted him .I'll always be there for him and Nandita."

The other life with his first wife Seema Kapoor in Jhalawar now awaits Om.

Says Om, "I'm looking forward to my new life. I've stopped drinking completely. Now I want to give up smoking also. I want to live for Ishaan and Nandita, and for Seema."

The proud father reveals that his son is already taller than him, “ I enjoy being with him. I am used to taking care of him from the time he was three years old, when I’d taken him abroad for one of my films with Priyan.

I would never discourage him from wanting to be an actor. The film industry is a beautiful place to be in.

Why films?

I was very happy modelling and being a journalist But there came a point when stagnancy sets in. Modelling had become monotonous. There was not much scope for anything new. My elder sister's fans who were in touch with me were of the opinion that I should be doing movies! And around that time like destiny would have it, Chikku Bukku came my way. I felt I should give it a shot.

Why Tamil and not Hindi as your debut film?

Well, I would like to believe that the Tamil industry chose me and I was fortunate to land a prestigious project like Chikku Bukku with Arya.

It was definitely not the first movie offer that came my way but it was one that came when I was contemplating to give cinema a try. So it was just the right timing and not a conscious decision to start off in the South.

You were supposed to act in a Kannada film first...

Yes, I had signed Raktaksha directed by Rajendra Singh Babu opposite his son Adithya. But their production house began producing three movies at the same time and then had to hold back our project in order to complete the other two. They may re-start anytime.

How did the offer to do Chikku Bukku come to you?

The PRO of Chikku Bukku spotted my picture in the Bollywood column of a film magazine. He approached the editor for my contact details and later director K Manikandan, who was the associate of late director-cinematographer Jeeva, met me in Mumbai and almost instantly signed me for the movie.

Initially he wanted a Hindi actress to play the role, and had approached Vidya Balan, but since she was busy with other commitments, I bagged the project!

How did you surmount the language barrier?

I would travel to Chennai very often to shoot for advertisements, so I had already picked up a smattering of Tamil, but when I started work on the film, I took some Tamil lessons and soon got the hang of it.

I always loved Tamil music and was used to listening to AR Rahman's compositions over a decade. Incidentally my grandmother was born in Madras in 1928, and her dad retired from the Sales Tax Tribunal, Madras in 1954. Hence my granny is fluent in Tamil. Since I was born and brought up in Mumbai, I did not have any opportunity to learn any of the South Indian languages. But I guess I have Tamil lessons running somewhere in my genes, which makes the lingo very comprehensible for me!

How was it acting with Shriya and Arya?

I don't have any scenes with Shriya in the movie. She was very friendly and would go out of her way to shower praise on me. Shriya told me that I have a lovely voice and that I was gorgeous and that I should join Bollywood ASAP!

As for Arya, we all know he is a fine actor. His kinky sense of humour made me laugh all day on the sets! He is super-cool and a very supportive.

Did you go through any theatre or acting classes to hone your acting skills?

No, because I believe that acting is not a talent that can be taught; you are born with it! Acting can be definitely practised, but then I was already facing the camera while I was in college thanks to my modelling experience. So I didn't find the need to go to an acting school.

How was it being directed by Manikandan?

If god gave me a wish to describe how my debut movie director should be, I think director Manikandan will fit the bill. He is one of the coolest new generation directors that Tamil cinema has. He is always smiling and cheerful. He makes his actors feel special. He has Satyajit Ray's vision and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's eye for detail.

Chikku Bukku will be one of the finest love story on celluloid in the Tamil industry.

Have you signed any further projects in any other languages?

Now with Chikku Bukku scheduled for release, the phones have already started ringing but I cannot give out details before it's officially announced.

Would you want to juggle movies with writing?

Writing is something I do not want to give up. Unlike other professions, writing has no retirement age. Entering the movie industry will make my writing career flourish as I would have better acquaintance with the industry that I write about.
